The key questions to ask!
At Westerman Homes, we aim to provide as much help and support as you need when buying a home with us and are happy to answer all your questions, including assisting with any questions not relating to new build . The company Online Mortgage Advisor has put a list of questions together to ask about any house that you are interested in. Let’s take a look:
Would you be part of a chain? If so, when do the sellers want to move out? Property chains can be a nightmare. If you’re buying a new home, this won’t affect you but if you are buying a home where the sellers are in a chain, it could increase your moving process by as much as three months.
Which way does the property face? When it comes to what we want from our home and how we intend to use it, we’re all a bit different. If you’re a sun worshipper, you might want the sun in the garden at a time of day that suits you. If you’ve got a young family and need more shade, you might want the exact opposite. So check where the property faced and look up when you get the sun, so you can ensure it’s right for you.
Is the property listed? Listed properties can have a lot of charm but can also have a high need for repairs and home improvement! If you’ve fallen in love with a listed building despite knowing how much work it needs, make sure you allow time to apply for Listed Building Consent. This can take up to eight weeks, so if you need to do the work sooner, try contacting your local council’s Planning Services Department. If you’re buying a Westerman Home, you won’t have these issues and will get a 10 year NHBC Buildmark Warranty too.
What are the neighbours like? When we have good neighbours, we often take them for granted. But when we have bad neighbours, it can hugely affect how we feel about our homes. So be sure to ask what the neighbours are like.
What’s the surrounding area like? Whether top of your list is schools, green spaces, shops, or transport links, find out as much as possible about the local area. Does it have what you need? What would your week and weekend look like? It’s important that you can see yourself living there and becoming part of the community.
- How much does it cost to run the property? Things like council tax, energy bills and other costs of running a home are crucial when working out if the house is financially viable for you. New homes like ours tend to cost less to run and will help you reduce your household carbon footprint.
